A hair transplant is a once-in-a-lifetime investment that will help give the best possible results.

HOW HAIR TRANSPLANT IS DONE

It is a very easy-going method to undergo and can be done in a day’s time with complete consciousness. During an IGM hair transplant procedure, the hair transplant surgeon moves healthy hair follicles from one location and relocates them to the area of the head that is thinning or bald due to the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone).  The IGM hair transplant process itself can consist of anywhere between several hundred to a few thousand grafts, depending on the client’s hair loss classification and the amount of hair needed to fill in thinning and balding areas.  Each hair follicle extracted from the donor area is carefully transplanted into the scalp in the recipient area with special IGM implanting needles and devices to match the individual’s former hair growth pattern, where the new hair will start to grow as usual.  This newly transplanted hair is artistically placed to complement the natural growth of the person’s hairline and facial features, giving him/her the most natural looking results.

The surgeon uses a tiny, less than 1mm hollow titanium punch to remove individual follicular units from the client’s scalp. A tiny circular slit around the follicular unit is made by the device makes to isolate the graft. The graft is then extracted directly from the scalp using a tweezers-like instrument, and then prepared for placement by a team of skilled technicians. Specially trained technicians with the help of high-powered stereo microscopes isolate, prepare and ensure that the follicular grafts remain in optimal condition. Follicular units are organized into groups depending on the number of hair contained within each follicle (1-4 hairs are usually found within each follicle). The placement of these follicular units is what sets the stage for Max’s natural-looking results and artistic difference. The method has various advantages – no stitches and the donor area appear mostly unchanged within days, natural-looking and permanent results, state-of-the-art minimally invasive technique, simple outpatient procedure, fast recovery with many clients returning to work the next day.

AFTER CARE

The post-operative measures are very simple and can be followed by any individual without any difficulty. Medications to be followed for next 5 days post procedure are:

PREDNISONE – This synthetic glucocorticoid drug helps in preventing swelling. It must be taken even if swelling is not present, following the dosage instructions on the post-operative guidelines.

ANTIBIOTIC – An antibiotic maybe given to prevent infection in the post-operative period. This should be taken only as prescribed.

PAIN RELIEVER – This will consist of a mild narcotic-analgesic which will aid ease the pain you may experience. Individual can take one tablet post procedure and then the next day morning.

OMEPRAZOLE – This is an antacid and anti-gastric drug to be taken all 5 days before the breakfast. Activities like gym, swim, and sports are prohibited for next 10 to 14 days and can be resumed after 14 days on regular basis.

GROWTH FACTORS AND THE EXPECTATIONS

All the scalp hair strands do not grow at the same time; at any given moment hair may be growing, resting, or shedding. They cycle on their own schedule and the transplanted hair cycle in this same random fashion. The procedure of removing, dissecting, and transplanting donor hair usually “shocks” the follicles into the resting stage. Due to this, most clients will shed all or most of the hair in the grafts at nearly 6-8 weeks post-op. At the beginning 2-3 months post-op, the transplanted hair strands begin to “germinate” below the skin. In-grown hairs may happen on occasional basis.

Transplanted hair strands start to visibly regrow between months 4-6. At month 6, an individual may expect to see growth from 40-60% of the transplants. However, due to the random cycle of hair growth, not all grafts will grow at the same time. Initially, the hair may be thinner and finer, but will begin to gain length and density as it matures.

Full growth from the transplants is usually achieved at 12th month after surgery. In certain cases, this can extend up to 18 months. This is especially common in female. The transplanted hair will continue to gain length over the time.
